The Dom Community in Jerusalem has been hit particularly hard by the outbreak of the Covid-19 Global Pandemic. For an already economically disadvantaged community, not being able to work has had an enormous devastating effect.
The pandemic has caused many people to have no work or income, therefore the Dom people are struggling to feed themselves and buy basic essentials for hygiene. In many cases single moms and teen parents have no money for diapers or formula for the babies. Disabled Dom’s with no support are in need of essentials such as adult diapers and wipes but without the means to buy them. , the center has had to focus solely on emergency aid for the community. During the Covid-19 pandemic the Domari Society was granted permission from the government to stay open to assist the Dom people with humanitarian aid.
This was accomplished by feeding, clothing and providing hygiene products to the poorest of the poor in the Domari community. The task is massive since we have little money to support the people. The pandemic has caused a huge set back to the work being done to support the flourishing of this warm and vibrant community. But in these despairing times the most important thing is firstly the survival and basic dignity for the Dom in Jerusalem.
Lastly, the Domari Center due the Covid was working daily to help as much as could to make the situation a bit better for some families, we were able to cover around 200 families .
